About Oliver

I am a visual computing engineer and researcher with over 10 years of experience. I am currently employed as a software engineer at CD-adapco / Siemens. My professional interests include

In 2004, I have received a degree of Dipl.-Ing. from the Vienna University of Technology, with a thesis about volume rendering on alternative (non-cartesian) lattices, working with Prof. Eduard Gröller and Markus Hadwiger. In 2010, I have received a Ph.D. from the same university under the supervision of Prof. Werner Purgathofer and Michael Wimmer, on the topic of visibility computations for real-time rendering.

After graduation, I worked short-term as a visiting researcher at The University of Tokyo in the group of Prof. Takeo Igarashi (with a JSPS Post-Doctoral Fellowship). From 2012-2016 I have been employed in Zurich, first at the University of Zurich under Prof. Renato Pajarola (from 2012-2014, with a Marie-Curie Fellowship), working on point-based reconstruction and scene understanding of indoor environments. From Oct. 2014 - April. 2017, I was employed as a postdoctoral researcher in the CAiM (Computer-assisted Applications in Medicine) group of the Computer Vision Laboratory at ETH Zurich under Prof. Orcun Goksel.

I have co-authored technical papers and have held courses at conferences like ACM Siggraph and Siggraph Asia, Eurographics, EGSR, ISMAR, and MICCAI, and have co-authored articles in journals like Transactions on Graphics and Computer Graphics Forum.

My personal interests include reading popular science books about physics and cosmology, learning to play the guitar, and Japanese fencing (Kendo).
